The Turks and Caicos Islands are situated 575 miles (or 75 minutes) southeast of Miami. Covering 193 square miles of the Atlantic Ocean, the Turks and Caicos Islands have the third largest coral reef system in the world, and pristine white sandy beaches, making it a premier vacation destination.
The Caicos Islands are the larger group, with almost 96 percent of the land area (589.5 km²) and 82 percent of the population. The Turks Islands, separated from the Caicos Islands by Turks Island Passage, are a chain that stretches north-south. The total area is 26.7 square kilometres, with an estimated population of 6,000.

Political Structure
Grand Turk is the administrative and political capital of the Turks and Caicos Islands and Cockburn Town has been the seat of government since 1766. As a British territory, Queen Elizabeth II of the United Kingdom is the sovereign, represented by a governor. The head of government is the premier. The Executive Council consists of three ex officio members and five appointed by the governor from among the members of the Legislative Council. No elections are held. The monarch is hereditary, the governor appointed by the monarch, and the premier appointed by the governor.
Infrastructure and Economy The Turks and Caicos Islands have enjoyed enormous growth in the offshore finance industry over the past ten years. The offshore financial service industry is gaining in both popularity and reputation amongst both companies and individuals. There is no taxation whatsoever on income, capital gains or corporate profits, nor is there any withholding tax legislation, and there are no inheritance taxes or estate duties payable in the islands.

English is the official language in the Turks & Caicos Islands.

The official currency is the U.S. dollar.
